Des Moines fire officials say it's a first.
Firefighters were called Friday to the Great Ape Trust of Iowa, 4200 S.E. 44th St., where an alarm had been activated.
According to the report: A primate (Bonobo/ name unknown), pulled the fire alarm mounted on the wall and sent a signal to the 911 dispatcher.
" This is the first known case of an animal setting off the fire alarm in Des Moines," fire spokesman Brian O'Keefe said in a news release. "We will ask the Great Ape Trust to educate the occupants of the seriousness of their actions. "
